university with a main campus located in Great Falls, Montana offering both

Controller is a highly visible role and will interact with multiple levels of

the organization, from the executive team, to the Board and operations

executives. The Controller will provide

support for the changing business with timely and accurate financial processes

and external reports, including tax compliance, accompanying report analysis,

and an internal control structure. The

Controller position will be a true business partner to the organization. This is a very "hands-on" position

and requires managerial skills coexistent with the ability to be

detail-oriented and to provide technical accounting guidance including

developing and implementing accounting policies & procedures and

establishing a testable internal control environment. The Controller will be responsible for

implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure

that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting

is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and US GAAP. The position

has responsibility for accounting and reporting for $20 million in revenues

over $30 million in assets including $15 million in investments.


incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes UP mission, values, and

philosophy. In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and

mission of the organization.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or business.

  • Fluency in accounting and prior oversight of technical accounting required.

  • At least five years as a senior leader with specialized mastery in financial management disciplines

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting, required.

  • A successful track record of leading internal control design, documentations, and implementation required.

  • Demonstrated success translating financial information into financial operations, and vice-versa.

  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate degree preferred.

  • CPA or chartered accountancy is preferred.

  • Academic experience preferred but not required.
