Under the direction of the department manager, provides supervision to department staff. Participates in the interviewing and selection of staff. Initiates counseling or disciplinary procedures when warranted and according to organizational guidelines. Completes performance evaluations for assigned staff. Provides oversight for daily operations of the laboratory assuring appropriate staffing. Implements and monitors processes for safe patient care.
In this position you will:
Provides daily supervision to department staff according to organizational policies and procedures, enabling smooth operation of the laboratory
Initiates counseling and disciplinary actions in a timely manner according to labor contract and policy provisions
Provides regular feedback to employees and completes performance evaluations within the organizational guidelines.
Assures adequate staffing of the laboratory:
Participates in hiring process.
Ensures adequate staffing levels in the department.
Monitors and approves the Kronos time keeping system.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing:
Promotes and models effective work relations with staff by developing and enabling a cooperative work team within the department
Works cooperatively with TQS, education coordinator, and point of care coordinators.
Represents laboratory on hospital committees and process improvement projects.
Together with department managers, develops new processes and procedures to continually improve:
Assists department manager in monitoring and tracking departmental expenses to ensure consistency with the annual budget.
Assists dept. manager in developing and assuring policies and procedures are followed to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
Ensure all faxes and other communications between the RC, the lead node, and the data management centers adhere to federal regulations
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in Laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Progressively responsible experience in laboratory management or a combination of education and directly related work experience.
MLT (ASCP), MT (ASCP), or equivalent (per CLIA regulations)
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Five (5) years laboratory/supervisory experience
