We are looking for a Laboratory Assistant with a $1,000 Sign-On Bonus for the HUM 23rd Street Laboratory Department at Providence Medical Foundation. $1,000 Sign-On Bonus for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment - this is in addition to the fantastic benefits and compensation package offered by Providence that begin on your first day of employment

Location: Eureka, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of a CLS, this position processes clinical specimens for analysis and assists the CLS in the operation of laboratory analyzers. Other duties include processing laboratory orders, performing phlebotomy and assisting with other aspects of the laboratory functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs capillary and venous specimen collections as required per laboratory protocol, which will include CLIA or other accrediting agency regulations if applicable, taking into account the age-specific needs and requirements of the patient and/or family as per division policies and procedures.

  • Spins, aliquots, labels and prepares specimens accurately for clinical laboratory and reference laboratory testing while adhering to infection control, universal precautions and OSHA requirements.

  • Operates laboratory analyzers after appropriate training is completed, adhering to laboratory policies and procedures and CLIA regulations. Follows laboratory protocols for handling and processing specimens, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

  • Assists in trouble shooting analyzers. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or test results.

  • Completes and documents Add-on orders per laboratory protocol.

  • Generally assists in the pre analytical, analytical and post analytical phases of the clinical laboratory functions.

Skills:

  • Requires basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, an e-mail system and data entry.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Possess a high level of customer service skills with a genuine caring approach to helping people.

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude with changing conditions.

  • Possess good organizational abilities.

  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced department and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions, and deal effectively with confidential information.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • Coursework/Training - Completion of an accredited training program for phlebotomy.

Experience: 3 Phlebotomy experiences.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current California Phlebotomy License (CPT-1).

  • Current BLS (CPR) card.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 4 years Phlebotomy experience.

  • Experience as a lab assistant in a clinical laboratory.
