Providence Health & Services Surgical Services Unit Secretary in Colville, Washington

Providence is calling an Surgical Services Unit Secretary (Surgical Services, Day Shift, 0.0 FTE, On-Call/Supplemental ) to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Support the Performance Improvement process.

  • Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

  • Non-Patient Care Positions: Consider individual needs in communication with patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects.

  • Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required for all positions. Failure to meet this standard can result in progressive discipline up to and including termination.

  • Confer with registered nurse regarding scheduling patient's activities and tests.

  • Answer telephones, take messages, and communicate messages to appropriate persons.

  • Schedule procedures for Surgery, Endoscopy, Anesthesia, and Outpatient.

  • Assist in coordinating procedures with staff, nursing supervisor, Laboratory, Pharmacy, etc.

  • Assist patients and visitors in department as needed.

  • Perform clerical duties related to the admission, discharge and transfer of patients to another facility.

  • Take minutes for department meetings when assigned.

  • Assist the Surgical Services Manager with reports, special projects, data compilation, information gathering, and computer input.

  • Order supplies and equipment; receive and place items in their proper storage area.

  • Coordinate specialty equipment with Physicians and Surgical Services staff.

  • Deliver specimens to the laboratory when appropriate and assigned.

  • Assist in transportation of patients being discharged or moved to another department.

  • Clean bays according to protocol.

  • Make phone calls to help arrange transportation for patients when discharge orders are written.

  • Schedule own breaks at appropriate time and informs RN when gone from department.

  • Accept assignments in other departments as assigned by nursing supervisor.

  • Assist in orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the unit.

  • Assist the Surgical Services staff, Anesthesia Staff, and physicians as necessary.

  • Work in a harmonious, collaborative, compassionate and effective professional relationship.

  • Consistently work toward social justice to balance the relationship between the powerful and the powerless, individual and community.

  • Promote competent and professional atmosphere at all times.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience

  • Must be licensed in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Competent in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR or obtains within 3 months of hire

  • Recent experience with Word Perfect/Word software programs

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience as a Unit Secretary

  • Data entry experience

  • 1 year secretarial experience
