Providence Health & Services Production Operator Technician 3 in Beaverton, Oregon


Providence is calling a Production Operator Technician 3 to our location in Beaverton, OR.

We are seeking a Production Operator Technician 3 category includes positions that perform a variety of technical functions. Responsibilities for a technician can include any of the following:


CUSTOMER ASSTANCE (help use and fix):

OPERATIONS (day-to-day):

· Conduct business analysis/research

· Evaluate and recommend options

· Coordinate cabling requests

· Negotiate with vendors and internal partners

Providence Health Plans is a managed care, Preferred Provider and workers compensation organization covering 750,000 lives. They are principally supported by Facets. Facets is resident on an Intel server platform running Windows Data Center Server and SQL Server Enterprise Edition. These systems are housed at the Murray Business Center of Providence in Beaverton, Oregon. The product was developed as a client server application with a Windows client. The Health Plans does not have a source code license and the policy is not to modify the core product or add proprietary customized modules except as required for integration with imaging, workflow, and support of specific contractual requirements. However, there have been extensive developments in the area of extracts, reports, and other data interfaces as well as data warehousing applications and web applications for customer and provider services. The Health Plans has built onto the PHS network, providing voice and data communications to all physical sites. Characteristics of this network include:

o Providence facilities in the Portland Metro area are connected by a Sonet ring with Gigabit Ethernet capabilities.

o Thin-net Ethernet local area networks within facilities using TCP/IP.

o DNS, Wins and DHCP address resolution with domain security managed across a Providence System wide Active Directory forest.

o Internet connectivity using IIS with SSL and strong encryption mechanisms.

o Remote access dial-up services.

o Windows based network, file, SQL Server and print services.

The IS organization is structured to provide IS operations, information technology, application development and support, data administration and data base, testing and quality assurance, help desk and project management services to the Health Plan.


Ability to deal with a constantly changing dynamic environment, reassessing priorities on a daily basis.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:


  • Participatory

  • Level 1:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of the various IS teams (via manager and peers).

  • Aligning, communicating and functioning efficiently in a team environment.

  • Reporting system related issues to appropriate party (vendor, developer, technician, engineer, etc.) who can effect resolution, and maintain awareness and effectively communicate the status of the reported defects to all affected customers.

  • Demonstrating positive interpersonal behavior when asked to participate in resolving situations experienced by others in department and/or volunteering time, knowledge and skills to assist others.

  • Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level)

  • Level 2:

  • Participating in cross-functional teams and committees within Information Service Division.

  • Meeting with all levels of staff and management to address and resolve issues and procedures associated with technical information systems.

  • Participating in regional support among various Information Services teams as necessary.

  • Providing feedback/instruction to other IS personnel in order to ensure staff is properly trained to support solutions provided.

  • Acting as a resource to assigned project teams by:

  • Providing input to project/technical project manager.

  • Communicating to other staff members regarding project task assignments.

  • Helping to identify possible conflicts due to scheduling and/or other issues or commitments that may impact assigned deliverables.

  • Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level)

  • Level 3:

  • Works closely with the business users and IS Teams to ensure solutions effectively meet business needs and preserve operational integrity.

  • Providing input to project/technical project manager.

  • Performance analysis and optimization.

  • Disaster Recovery Planning, acquisition planning, volume/capacity.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Level 2: Degree in related specialty. Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level) or 2 years of customer support desk, network, microcomputer, or telecommunications support and/or project management experience

  • Level 3: Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level) or Associate degree and 3 year of industry related experience

  • 5 years of industry related experience

  • Level 2, Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level):

  • Developing increasing experience in working with associated technologies which may include microcomputers, telecommunications, LAN/WAN components & concepts, microcomputer applications, desktop operating systems, network operating systems (NOS), network/system components, Unix, TCP/IP and/or other communication protocols or proprietary systems. Demonstrated by the successful completion of all intermediate level work assignments related to these areas respectively

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Level 2: Coursework in technical writing. Self-Directed (includes all requirements in preceding level)
