Providence Health & Services Operations Systems Engineer in Beaverton, Oregon
Providence is calling an Operations Systems Engineer to Providence Health & Services in Renton WA, Seattle WA, Portland OR, Beaverton OR, Burbank CA or Mission Hills CA.
We are seeking an Operations Systems Engineer to be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows based server operating systems and solutions in support of clinical and business operations. This role is accountable for the daily activities of Technology Operations; Tier 2 and 3 production support; MAC’s (device Move, Adds & Changes), Break-Fix, Lifecycle Management, and Major Incident resolution including both centralized and local technical support of advanced LAN, WLAN, VLAN, and WAN technologies. 7x24x365 Production Operations and Operational User support for Providence Health & Services at centralized, regional or ministry-based site(s). Responsible for ensuring proper escalation to 3rd-level TSO teams; Engineering, Architecture and Applications. Develops relationships with regional customers so that IS/IT Server services are provided according to regional business need with priority and special emphasis placed on production systems, production incidents and emergencies in this descending order of importance. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a distributed environment working with local and geographically distributed team members and teams. The scope of activities include but, are not limited to technological production systems service and support and those activities associated with such Production Systems (network, laptops), end-user devices (desktops, thin clients, tablets, mobile devices, etc.). Additional responsibilities include 7x24x365 on-call and on-site support, technology lifecycle replacements, technical skills development, operational effectiveness and management of day-to-day tasks and assignments.
Key Working Relationships:
The position may report to a Senior Manager, Manager or Supervisor of Technology Operations and must establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, IS management, regional/ministry customers, Regional IS Strategic Partners and team members at all levels in Technology Service & Operations (TSO), Providence Strategic and Management Services (PSMS), as well as with other Providence Health & Services staff, vendors, agents, and others.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Responsible for the Service and Support of the production systems, end-user devices, and supporting Server at PH&S centralized, regional or ministry-based site(s).
Key Production Areas of support include, Network, Desktop; Break Fix, 7x24x365 Production On-Call, Moves/Adds/Changes, Service Requests,
Closet Maintenance includes UPS Support, Cable Patching, Cable Punch-Down, Wireless Server, Vocera Support, Port Activation, Port Turn-up, Lifecycle Hardware Replacement, Local DC Hands-On Support, Circuit Support, Vendor Onsite Coordination, SOP execution, Spot End-User Training and Current-State and Knowledge-Based Article Creation
Implements technology solutions to meet customer requirements with a balanced view towards performance, availability, data security, and cost effectiveness.
Collaborates with other IS teams to meet the needs of the PH&S.
Performs all work with the focus on how best to support the Providence mission and ministries.
Responsible for the development of current state documentation and knowledge base articles for deployed technology solutions. Updates documents regularly, and maintains accurate documentation on system performance and operational activities.
Responsible for self-managing the daily activities of support, process, and project activities.
Escalates issues and/or problems on any customer impacting work to their direct manager.
Provides production support of deployed Providence technologies, including moves, additions, changes, deletion/removal, availability, and backup/restore. Responds to tickets, service requests, and alerts from monitoring systems. Monitors appropriate work queues and takes action.
Provides support to vendor activities and vendor service deployment, including network circuit installations, outages, and maintenance.
Ensures availability and viability of deployed technologies through equipment lifecycle management in accordance to established standards.
Manages prioritization of work in accordance to established service level agreements.
Provides spot end-user training as necessary.
Maintains closet Servers, including uninterruptable power supplies and cable patching, punch down, and routing.
Provides local hands-on support to in-field data centers.
Patches and updates systems. Executes standard changes as managed by change control.
Functional escalation point and mentor for Tier 1 Service Desk personnel.
Support, manage and resolve Major Incident events
System patching and standard changes
Advocates Technology Operations goals and commitments; understands the vision of PSMS and is able to deploy that vision through functional areas.
Knows when to proactively communicate with leadership about issues and problems that exist in their own functional area.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
7 years of direct experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified as a multi-discipline generalist in network,and/or desktop in a 24x7 environment.
One or a combination of the following, Cisco and Juniper certifications and/or expertise, MS certifications and/or expertise
Technical support skills of Production and Operational Technology Service and Support.
Strong knowledge of technology best practices in the following areas, Wide area and local area networks, Wireless technologies and networks, including voice over IP and wireless products such as Spectralink and Vocera, Desktop Devices, including Microsoft operating systems and Server technologies, including virtualization and Windows servers
Detailed knowledge regarding core vendor strategies in area of technical accountability.
The ability to work in and through challenging situations with both internal and external customers.
Proven ability to develop effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
Ability to work effectively with other parts of the IT organization (e.g. Applications, Architecture, Engineering, Service Center and Program Management).
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Demonstrated long and short-range planning skills.
Ability to organize multiple tasks, schedules and meet shifting priorities
Ability to identify and implement changes and improvements that accomplish long-range objectives.
Proactive identification of ways to enhance or improve service delivery to customers and technology standards.
Proficiency with the MS-Office suite of products.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Microsoft, Citrix, VMWare, Cisco UCS or HP Proliant Hardware certifications and/or expertise.
Experience with patch management systems (SCCM preferred)
Large enterprise experience
