Providence Health & Services Surgical Technologist Lead in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Surgical Technologist Lead to the Operating Room (Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
The Surgical Technologist Lead will work collaboratively with the RN Team Leader to manage a subspecialty area and take co-responsibility for a smooth running service. Responsibilities include training, resource management, supply management and maintenance of Preference Cards.
In this position you will:
Work as a Surgical Technologist in the OR room approximately 60% of the time with the remaining time will be devoted to Team Lead Technician work.
Be responsible for equipment and supply management (including but not limited to maintaining par levels, evaluation of new and replacement equipment), staff training and preference card updates.
Set up surgical equipment; select and prepare appropriate equipment, suture, and stapling devices for procedures; clean and sterilize equipment; coordinate for specialty equipment to be present for cases in the subspecialty to assure smooth running surgical cases and surgeon satisfaction.
Help facilitate turnovers and first time starts in the subspecialty; mentor new employees in an effective manner to achieve competent technician staff in the subspecialty; observe, monitor and correct any deficiencies in sterile technique; be an advocate of Universal Protocol methods and assure compliance by OR Technicians.
Work with surgeons, Anesthesiologists, RN's, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care during surgery; handle Instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure, anticipate the needs of the surgeon in providing these, and maintain a sterile environment.
Demonstrate appropriate review of patient chart and intervene as necessary to assure chart is complete prior to surgery.
Appropriately identify and safely transport patients to and from Surgical Services according to procedure.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred qualifications for this position include :
Graduation from a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or other program accredited by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist or completion of a Surgical Technician Military Training program; equivalent other or on the job clinical training is acceptable with demonstrated operating room experience at the surgical technologist level or higher
Candidates with equivalent other or at least six months of on the job clinical training must have operating room experience scrubbing on surgical procedures
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

This is a great opportunity to be employed by the largest OR facility in Alaska, that has the latest technology including robotics and provides state of the art patient care. Currently we have 17 OR suites and we are expanding. With over 1,000 cases per month, all surgical procedures are performed here except for organ transplants.
