Providence Health & Services RN Fellow – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Anchorage, Alaska

Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow (Nights, 0.9 FTE ) to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

We are Alaska’s only nationally recognized Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit, honored recipient of the Eisenberg award for innovation in patient safety and quality. The NICU has a bed capacity of 66 with an average length of stay of 24 days. Significant subgroups include premature infants <37 weeks gestation, newborns with respiratory compromise, congenital anomalies and medical complications. Care in the NICU incorporates an interdisciplinary team collaboration to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care. Our NICU is the regional referral center for the state of Alaska serving all Alaskans, including the Alaska Native and military populations. We are able to serve all of Alaska through our partnership with LifeMed transport services and our specialized NICU Transport Team.

In this position you will:

  • Work with a preceptor and assume increasing responsibility during the fellowship.

  • Demonstrate competencies in populations served at completion of fellowship.

  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate patient’s care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes.

  • Effectively advocate for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights values and beliefs of those we serve.

  • Foster a learning environment for patient/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team including students.

  • Align practice with safety and quality. Be accountable for safety. Identify and correct problems.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development; promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates and disseminates research and evidence based practice.

  • Lead and coordinate teams, delegate, coordinate care and collaborate with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire

  • All Registered Nurses without a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) degree or higher must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire. RNs with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN

  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered. If RN holds a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 45 days

  • Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work and Emotional support (S.T.A.B.L.E.) certification within 90 days of hire

  • 12 months nursing experience but new to specialty of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
