Providence Health & Services Operating Room Technician Resident in Anchorage, Alaska

Description:

Providence is calling an Operating Room Technician Resident (Operating Room, Variable shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position, you will:

  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, as well as emergency and unusual circumstances, acts accordingly to expedite the surgery, and initiates corrective actions.

  • Provide for the comfort and safety of the patient during the operation. Anticipates the need for supplies, and identifies developing emergency situations, and initiates actions to assist in the care of the patient. Operates all equipment, including the preparation of hemeostatic, and blood replacement products and devices.

  • Demonstrate appropriate review of patient chart and intervenes as necessary to assure chart is complete prior to surgery. Appropriately identify and safely transport patients to and from Surgical Services according to procedure.

  • Set up surgical equipment. Select and prepare appropriate equipment, suture, and stapling devices for procedures. Clean and sterilize equipment.

  • Residency: Graduates hired directly from a Surgical Technology Program without work experience will complete an onboarding process lasting 6 months. The Surgical Technologist residency program will involve completing competencies in each service group by the lead tech of that service, and the OR technology educator.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Operating Room experience for candidates who have graduated from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technology Program, or completion of a Surgical Technician Military Training program.

  • Candidates with documented clinical scrubbing experience during clinical externship may be considered.

  • BLS

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduation from a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the (Commission on Accreditation of Allied health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

This is a great opportunity to be employed by the largest OR facility in Alaska, that has the latest technology including robotics and provides state of the art patient care. Currently we have 17 OR suites and we are expanding. With over 1,000 cases per month, all surgical procedures are performed here except for organ transplants.
