Providence Health & Services Director of Nursing, PMGA in Anchorage, Alaska
The Director of Nursing is accountable for the provision of Nursing quality, practice, standards, scope and patient care for Providence Medical Group Alaska. This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer for PMG and in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer of PMG. The Director of Nursing is accountable to support the achievement of PMG's quadruple aim and enhance nurse/provider collaboration to promote optimum patient and family experience and clinical outcomes. This role will also provide leadership in operations, financial planning, and business activities. This includes strategically ensuring a balance of optimal and efficient patient care; staff, patient, and provider satisfaction; and cooperative partnerships with other organizational departments and professional groups. With a constant focus on patient-centeredness and staff and patient safety, the Director of Nursing will create and maintain programs, policies, procedures, and processes for care delivery consistent with organizational standards and processes. The Director of Nursing will direct the implementation of effective, ongoing programs to measure, analyze, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment, and services. This role will collaborate with other system wide nursing leadership positions to assure standardized approaches and alignment with organizational and regulatory goals and compliance. This role will constructively manage change and promote a team-based approach with focus on PMG' s Mission, Vision and Values.

Lead the development of a Nursing/Clinical Strategic Plan with specific goals and objectives. Ensure standards of performance are developed and implemented, performance evaluated, and appropriate personnel actions are taken in coordination with clinic managers and Human Resource partners.
Build a strategic workforce plan to focus on building Medical Assistant talent pipeline to attract, develop, and retain MA caregivers for PMG clinics.
Measure clinic performance against objective and regulatory standards. Provide prompt feedback and constructive criticism so that objectives are achieved, performance excellence is recognized and performance improvement is achieved. Establish performance standards for caregivers in professional and technical competency, productivity, performance improvement, appropriate use of resources, and outcomes. Guide directors and managers as necessary in appropriate and consistent administration of all disciplinary measures.
Administer well-organized professional departments whose ultimate goal is the delivery of high quality and fiscally effective patient care. Ensure that policies, procedures and standards are up to date, integrated with other policies and fulfilled. In collaboration with the Chief Executive, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Directors, and other PMG leaders, implement programs to monitor, evaluate and improve quality and appropriateness of care. Lead the recruitment and retention of staff in collaboration with Personnel. Monitor staff development and continuing education programs on an ongoing basis. Ensure that staffing needs of departments are assessed and met on an ongoing basis.
Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with medical staff. Establish lines of communication for provider input related to patient care and staff performance. Lead collaborative working relationship between management and providers. Serve as a coach and mentor to direct reports and to nurse leaders throughout the organization.
Create a positive atmosphere for quality by encouraging attention to quality and care experience, placing emphasis on performance improvement. Use a systematic and objective process to identify problem areas and improve outcomes; Take corrective action to resolve deficiencies. Recognize individual and group efforts in performance improvement. Improvements are implemented, supported and monitored.
Maintain and promote service excellence through high standards, combined with positive, open and honest relationships. Demonstrate ability to relate well with all levels of staff, placing importance on collaboration with regional partners. Utilize constructive criticism and/or self-evaluation skills to improve own work performance or behavior. Incorporate principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in Environment of Care, Infection Control, and Exposure Control manuals and department safety policies/procedures . Use protective equipment and take appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids and/or chemicals. Maintain knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care program. Lead the implementation of the strategic development of PMG in line with Providence goals, strategies and objectives. Identify needed changes in management of care. Develop, advocate, and implement policy changes. Provide operational support for the recruitment of providers in collaboration with PMG leadership. Lead recruitment of key management positions. Provide support to the credentialing and re-credentialing process, and assist in contracting.

Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and employees.

Participate in the development and lead the implementations of PMG strategic plans.
Develop and implement integration strategies including program development, quality, fiscal management, compliance, clinical management, provider relationships, outcomes management and reimbursement.
Foster effective business relationships between provider leaders, hospital leaders, medical staff and payers. Maintain positive relationships with provider leaders and integrate them into decision-making processes.
Work with the Medical Group, Regional Operations, Chief Executive, Medical Directors, and other PMG leaders in assessing and improving quality of patient care consistent with the Quadruple Aim (better health outcomes, improved patient experience, better cost of care, improved provider experience).
Lead PMG strategic planning and budgetary formation in conjunction with the Medical Group, Regional Operations and Chief Executive. Support all growth and expansion projects.
Develop and maintain positive relationships and ongoing communication with all key medical and nursing caregivers, as well as Providence regional partners, and community leaders to enhance the health services provided to individuals and communities.
Work closely with information systems teams to ensure appropriate technological support.
Provide leadership in the identification of clinical improvement projects and the integration of clinical care services.
Maintain professional affiliations and professional development to keep current in the latest health care trends.
Responsible for various infrastructure functions as assigned by Chief Executive and Medical Group, Regional Operations.
Serve as Manager of Care Management Services for Alaska Region Care Management regionalization initiative.
Actively contribute and participate in PMG Monthly Operations Report to Physician Enterprise System.
Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Public Affairs, Health Administration or other related field.
Bachelors of Nursing is required if the Master's degree is not in Nursing.
Current Licensure as Registered Nurse in the state of Alaska required or must be qualified to obtain before start date.
8 years of progressive success in nursing and/or health care administration in leadership roles.
Leadership experience within an integrated delivery system.
Proven track record in clinical operations and clinical program development with a major institution or market leader.
Experience in leading multiple facilities, sites, clinics, or departments.
Knowledge and skills in ambulatory, hospital outpatient and physician practice operations are required.
Ability to lead the operational management of complex organizations through transition and growth within a complex, matrixed organization.
Ability to establish organizational structures and management systems to achieve administrative and clinical integration across the continuum of care.
Strong working knowledge of clinic operations, provider group practices, and financial management.
Broad knowledge of the trends in health care and their implications.
Leadership experience with providers and demonstrated ability to work with provider leaders.
Ability to lead and educate others through the process of change.
Ability to provide credible oversight to management team.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Problem solver who involves others in key decision and assures timely decisions are made.
Ability to establish relationships with diverse groups.
