Providence Health & Services Registered Nurse - Diabetes Educator in Walla Walla, Washington


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) - Diabetes Educator (Variable Shift, 0.75 FTE - Part time) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Provide consultation services for both inpatient and outpatient referrals.

  • Collects Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Program participant assessment data in a collaborative and ongoing manner.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of care by assisting with collection and analysis of data from chart review, literature search, or other data sources and participate in recommendations for improvements for the multidisciplinary team.

  • Assist with the coordination of patient discharge or follow-up needs with other members of the care team and families.

  • Collaboratively develop an individualized follow-up plan with each program participant.

  • Conduct individual or group diabetes self-management education for the age-group served.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Washington State

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

  • Diabetes Educator certification (CDE) must be obtained after minimum Diabetes Self-Management Education experience (1000 hours) is acquired

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in patient education and staff development

  • Previous acute care experience

  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish
