Providence Health & Services – Washington, a non-profit healthcare system, desires to employ a Senior Software Engineer – II (SSE-II) as part of our Digital Innovation Group. The SSE-II understands and applies a variety of software engineering concepts, and resolves a range of issues. The SSE-II is an expert in their area and is a resource for others with questions about the specialization. The SSE-II reports to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering. The SSE-II provides mentorship to other engineers and can act as lead on projects, but does not supervise other engineers.

The SSE-II determines methodologies and procedures on new assignments, and determines their own priorities based on general direction from management. The SSE-II works on modules or large sets of features, with high complexity, and proposes technical/quality strategy and roadmaps. The SSE-II has strong technical design and abstraction skills. The SSE-II write technical designs/test plans and test content for their area and act as technical reviewer for others. The SSE-II communicates to different audiences, including executives and non-technical stakeholders.

The duties, skills, and abilities performed by the SSE-II include:

  • Serve as primary expert/owner of at least one area of the solution.

  • Demonstrate in-depth competency for multiple technologies

  • Understand security and infrastructure dependencies, and software development/ quality engineering/software configuration management.

  • Network with key individuals both external and internal to Providence and DIG.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in developing/delivering multi-system business solutions.

  • Influence technical direction of team and establish strategies for achieving individual or team goals and remove barriers to effective collaboration.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in modern object oriented language such as Java, C#, C/C .

  • Apply strong Computer Science fundamentals in object oriented design, data structures and problem solving.

  • Apply complex problem solving, reasoning and analytical skills.

  • Apply Agile and Scrum methodologies.

  • Provide technical leadership to complete the project.

  • Demonstrate track record of delivering big, complex, and business-impacting projects on time with no supervision.

  • Facilitate effective and respectful product manager/engineering communication.

  • Serve as an expert in team's technology and tools. Provide technical mentorship for engineers.

  • Proactively identify, escalate and lead resolution of issues with most of the team's systems. Navigate roadblocks and create solutions that scale.

  • Help improve the engineering process and ensure team's commitment to the ideal.


Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Foreign Equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related field AND seven years of progressive post-baccalaureate industry experience designing, implementing, and delivering software using Service Orientated Architecture methodology.


  • Master’s Degree Foreign Equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related field AND five years of progressive post-baccalaureate industry experience designing, implementing, and delivering software using Service Orientated Architecture methodology.

Additionally, the successful candidate's experience should include the following:

  • One year of experience with processing camera feeds to obtain depth maps and tracking features such as color, height, torso, head, etc.

  • Ability to write modular software and firmware to add a broad range of video enhancement capabilities.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of deep learning algorithms.

  • One year of experience with OpenCV or similar.

The successful candidate must also meet either of the following:

  • Four years of experience working with automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, XebiaLabs;


  • Four years of experience supporting Amazon Web Services or similar cloud infrastructure;


  • Four years of programming experience with technologies such as Python, C#, Java, C , SQL
