Providence Health & Services Relief Food Service Coordinator in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a Food Service Coordinator (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

In this position you will:

  • Provide a high level of customer service for patients, family members, volunteers, physicians, and staff.

  • Adhere to the Service Excellence Standards of Behavior guidelines at all times.

  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of, and be compliant with, specified regulatory requirements, food safety, and sanitation regulations for food service in a health care environment.

  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and practices to assure the cleanliness and sanitation of warewashing, service ware, and equipment in the work area.

  • Adhere to county/state health department, hospital, and department standards, policies, and procedures at all times.

Patient Dining Coordinator Role:

  • Coordinate the provision of attractive nutritious meals to patients by timely and accurate assembly of food trays and the timely delivery of meal carts to designated nursing units in a courteous, friendly manner.

  • Assure patient dining services runs smoothly to provide a positive food experience for our patients.

  • Meet and routinely visit with patients and families to address concerns and assure patient satisfaction is achieved.

  • Assure all areas are well stocked, clean, and orderly.

  • Coordinate the daily operation of the Food and Nutrition Services department to assure quality service, product, and operation standards are achieved.

  • Coordinate daily operations, which includes Provtime review, directing, scheduling, coaching, and training employees.

  • Participate in the hiring and performance management of employees.

  • Participate in development and implementation of menu items, workflow, job description, job outlines, practices, and procedures.

  • Be responsible for data entry, quality control/monitoring, and preparation of daily operational reports.

  • Refer to decisions such as capital equipment, service level changes, and vendor changes to supervisor/manager.

Retail Dining, Barista, and Catering Role:

  • Coordinate the provision of courteous, friendly food service to hospital employees, visitors, and physicians by setting up, stocking, replenishing, and cleaning service areas.

  • Coordinate daily operation of retail food service outlets to assure quality service, product, and operation standards are achieved.

  • Schedule employees, coach and train, order food and supplies, handle cash, Provtime review, and operational reports.

  • Participate in the hiring and performance management of employees.

  • Participate in development and implementation of menu items and practices and procedures related to the operation of the retail food service outlets.

  • Assure quality service and product is provided and operation standards are achieved.

  • Assure that all retail areas are well stocked, clean, orderly, and ready for customers.

  • Assist as needed in taking orders, assembly and service of customers’ orders, operating cash register, busing tables, preparing food, operating dish machine, taking phone orders, and providing espresso coffee service.

  • Provide catering services including production, services, set up and clean up, cash reconciliation, and placing orders with vendors.

  • Refer to decisions such as capital equipment, service level changes, and vendor changes to supervisor/manager.

Coordinator Catering Role:

  • In addition to the above, assure a quality catering experience for our customers.

  • Perform event costing, supply ordering and menu planning as needed.

  • Clean and re-stock the doctor's dining room.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Valid County Health Department Food Handlers Certificate or ServSafe Certification at the time of hire

  • ServSafe certification within 1 year of hire

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through college course work, supervisory training, or equivalent knowledge plus 3-5 years of experience in food service.

  • Knowledge of food service principles and basic supervisory principles

  • Math skills necessary to calculate food costs, daily cash balancing, etc

  • Understanding of retail profit and loss accounting practices

  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English in order to communicate and give/follow instructions and directions

  • Dietary Coordinators: knowledge of patient diets and diet office computer knowledge/experience

  • Catering Coordinators: knowledge in menu planning and organization of catered events

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Food service management experience

  • Catering Coordinators: experience with event scheduling software knowledge/experience

  • Retail Coordinators: point of sale software knowledge/experience
