Providence Health & Services Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling an IBCLC-Certified Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant (0.0 FTE, Days) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.

This is an on-call unionized position offering a minimum of 3 day shifts per month, preferably 4. One of the shifts is required to be a weekend day each month.

The Lactation Consultant will support new mothers and infants and will work with other Lactation Consultants in a mutually supportive, compassionate environment.

In this position, you will:

  • Be accountable for the direct and indirect care for infants and women both in the inpatient or outpatient clinic setting.

  • Be responsible to provide postpartum maternal and neonatal assessments.

  • Develop feeding plans to address the nutritional needs of the infant that may include but is not limited to breastfeeding support, breast pumping support, and supplementation as appropriate.

  • Provide lactation support and education to mothers as directed by referral or in the clinic setting after discharge.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse (RN) License

  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

  • Infant and adult Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers

  • Successful completion of an accredited college level lactation certification program that includes 300 hours -or- more of precepted clinical lactation experience may be substituted for years of prior experience

  • 3 years of experience providing lactation care in a Labor and Delivery, Post Partum, NICU department, or outpatient mother baby clinical setting

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
