Providence Health & Services Outpatient Behavioral Health Therapist - Chemical Dependency in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a full time Chemical Dependency Outpatient Behavioral Health Therapist to our Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

The outpatient therapy provided for Chemical Dependency functions under a harm reduction model. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing (MI), the chemical dependency therapists facilitate both group and individual sessions. This position will have a schedule of Monday - Friday. Two days out of the week, this position will be scheduled to facilitate the evening group and will work a schedule of 12pm - 8:30pm.

In this position, you will:

  • Independently and within the scope of licensure entitled by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) and Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) complete evaluation.

  • Diagnose and treat individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders.

  • Perform diagnostic evaluations.

  • Determine Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnosis.

  • Develop written treatment plans meeting professional and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide direct clinical treatment services including individual, family, and group psychotherapy to patients in assigned patient care service location.

  • Provide services to highly acute, severely compromised individuals and families across the continuum of behavioral health treatment settings.

  • In this high level of patient complexity require development of detailed, comprehensive case management plans that may include continuing psychiatric and substance use treatment, access to primary or specialty medical and dental care, and connection with community agencies and support groups.

  • Possess special skill required to engage this complex population of patients to engage in case management and create motivation for patients and families to complete these plans and enter continuing treatment of their disorders.

  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies; including individuals with suicidal risk and risk of violence to others.

  • Evaluate these individuals.

  • Determine level of risk.

  • Provide crisis intervention therapy.

  • Facilitate disposition of patient to appropriate level of care; including recommendation for involuntary inpatient hospitalization to ensure life safety of patient and others.

  • Services provided are documented and charged following all coding and compliance requirements to obtain reimbursement for these services as a professional service eligible for reimbursement from payers.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Incumbents must have one of the following set of qualifications and experience:

  • Master's -or- PhD degree from an accredited university AND Oregon licensure as: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

  • Master's -or- PhD degree from an accredited university AND enrolled in an Oregon Board of Professional Licensure -or- Oregon Board of Clinical Social Work approved plan of supervision to achieve licensure within 2 years of hire

  • Master's or PhD Graduate internship and post graduate experience in a psychiatric and/or chemical dependency treatment setting qualifies toward this requirement

  • Oregon Licensure, or enrollment in plan of supervision for licensure

  • 5 years of experience providing psychiatric and chemical dependency treatments

  • Therapists providing substance use treatment in a dedicated substance use treatment program must have 60 hours of continuing education; or the ability to achieve this education requirement within 6 months of hire or certification in treatment of chemically dependent individuals

  • In compliance with company policy and state regulations, a Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check is required for this position.

  • All Therapists working in OR State certified OR PHS programs will receive clinical supervision, minimum 2 times per month with at least one session individually with their supervisor

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) -or- Licensed Psychologist (PsyD)

  • Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor by State of Oregon
