Providence is calling an Oncology Patient Advocate (0.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
Be a part of a warm, caring oncology health care team providing services to patients and families throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. If you are passionate about providing psychosocial services, end of life care, and group therapy, we have an on call opportunity that floats between oncology clinics, primarily for daytime coverage and occasional evening group therapy sessions.
In this position, you will:
Provide psychosocial services to patients, families and significant others facing the impact of a potential or actual diagnosis of cancer.
Have duties that include clinical practice, education, and research.
Provide services to patients and families throughout all phases of the cancer continuum, including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, end of life care, and bereavement.
Facilitate psychosocial services which include individual, family and group counseling, education, advocacy, discharge planning, home care planning, case management, and program development.
Be an integral part of the health care team and contributes to the development and coordination of the overall treatment plan.
In collaboration with other disciplines, link patients with a variety of services necessary to meet the cancer patient's multiple needs.
Facilitate services that are provided to both inpatients and outpatients.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master's degree in social work from an accredited graduate program
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure within 2 years of accepting position
3 years of oncology or hospice experience
Knowledge about oncologic diseases and their treatments, psychosocial implications for individuals and families, appropriate interventions and available community and governmental resources
Knowledge of the usual course of cancer and its treatment so that patients and families can be helped to anticipate and deal with changes in daily life
Basic computer skills including the ability to navigate the Internet
