Providence is calling a Registered Nurse House Supervisor (1.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.

In this position, you will:

  • Coordinate the general operation of the Department of Nursing and provide administrative coverage for those departments operating on a 24-hour basis when senior administrative personnel are not present.

  • Demonstrate a wide range of general nursing knowledge and unit specific skills, including application of the nursing process.

  • Act as a mentor and role model for the nursing staff in development of problem solving assertiveness and leadership skills.

  • Work in collaboration with the nurse manager, and central staffing office with staffing and in-crisis situations.

  • Be able to communicate effectively, function in the crisis/urgent situations and to follow-up (in real time) with department managers and/or directors and staff. These are key skills required for this position.

  • Be accountable for patient flow, capacity, quality and experience of nursing services at the facility level in support of the Providence Health & Services system and regional goals.

  • Be accountable for but not limited to, assuring safe, efficient and effective patient placement balanced with optimal patient care and services.

  • Constructively manage change and promote a team based approach exemplifying the standards of behaviors.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree prepared for all external candidates

  • Internal candidates must be currently enrolled and complete their BSN within 2 years of hire

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Oregon State Board of Nursing

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

  • 5 years of staff nurse experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or master's degree in related field

  • National certification
