Providence Health & Services Monitor Technician, Cardiology, Telemetry (On-Call, Per Diem) in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Monitor Technician to its Cardiac Telemetry unit at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR. This is an on-call or per diem position. You will have the ability to view available shifts at least 4-6 weeks in advance. Available shifts will be from 7pm-7:30am, Mon-Sun (12 hours per shift).

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for cardiac monitor surveillance for the telemetry unit and other nursing units as assigned.

  • Be responsible for the reporting of any rhythm changes and potentially lethal rhythms to a Registered Nurse following the Telemetry Rhythm Notification Guidelines.

  • Interact directly with physicians regarding the interpretation of cardiac rhythm patterns or changes in patterns.

  • Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • SBARR report to on-coming shift with visual verification of patient rhythm

  • Accountability for all telemetry units, assignment of telemetry pagers to telemetry system accurately

  • Assignment of patient data to the monitor system accurately

  • Running rhythm strips every shift

  • Maintaining telemetry supplies

  • Assisting nursing staff with pattern interpretation

  • Utilizing Vocera technology to contact and communicate with staff members

  • Answering patient call lights via phone


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Successful completion of Basic electrocardiogram (ECG) exam

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Basic medical terminology

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Previous cardiac monitoring, including interpretation of heart rhythms
