Providence Health & Services HCC Coder Analyst in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling an HCC Coder Analyst to Providence ElderPlace Belmont in Portland, OR.

Once successfully on-boarded, the right candidate will have the ability to work remotely.

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for detailed diagnostic coding associated with Risk Adjustment and Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC) coding. This impacts revenue and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) compliance with the coordination of technically detailed coding applications that impacts operations, programmatic and information systems, as well as contracted providers.

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9, ICD-10 and other types of coding for ElderPlace Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) programs (both Portland & Seattle), contracted facilities, and providers.

  • Identify and research provider diagnostic coding issues; medical record review, documentation standards and identifying and offering education in relation to provider coding errors.

  • Be in an advisory role in development of ElderPlace Payment Rules related to risk adjustment.

  • Be required to travel as needed.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's degree in business or related field

  • Current certification as a professional coder (Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC))

  • Current certification as Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) or must be obtained within 1 year of hire

  • 3 years of experience working in risk adjustment and Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC) coding, which includes doing Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), HCC coding, or Medicare Advantage HCC coding

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Coding Specialist- Hospital (CCS-H), Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P) and Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) certification
