Providence is calling a Database Administrator III to Providence Health & Services in Renton or Olympia, WA, Beaverton or Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Database Administrator III to be responsible for the effective and efficient administration of database environments. This position applies proven DBA best practices, troubleshooting skills, and experience to ensure that enterprise data is available to systems and customers at all times. The DBA is accountable for ensuring databases are available, backed up regularly, and can be restored. The DBA is also accountable for monitoring database system performance and maintaining database security. The DBA also performs project work to install, configure, upgrade, migrate database environments, and provide leadership in matters concerning database environments. The DBA is expected to perform all duties in a manner that promotes team concepts and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, philosophy, and core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence, and stewardship. Candidate will be asked to mentor other members of the DBA team.

In this position you will:

  • Mentor others in performing all the duties of a DBA.

  • Handle installation of the database software. (Oracle, SQL Server or InterSystems Caché)

  • Handle configuration of the database software to adhere or comply with Providence technical and business standards.

  • Plan, schedule and implement database upgrades and patches.

  • Provide database support for software development or application projects.

  • Participate in 24 x 7 on call rotation as needed.

  • Understand the database environment “big picture” and impact of different areas on the environment(s) by taking a strategic approach to project planning, operational tasks, system planning, and balancing and prioritizing short and long term requirements.

  • Migrate data from an old server to a new server (replacement) or an old database to a new database. Plan, test, and execute the migration. Recommend server replacements when necessary.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Information Services, Computer Science, Engineering, Database Development, Database Administration or similar field)

  • Training in relational database management system (RDBMS) administration and a standard SQL language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, or similar.

  • 7 years of industry related experience. Industry related means Information Services, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Database Development, Database Administration, etc.

  • At least 3 years of experience in RDBMS administration in a 24x7 enterprise environment as a senior member of the team.

  • Experience providing technical and/or work process guidance and direction to team members

  • A combination of experience and education will be considered

  • Successful completion of at least one RDMS professional certification exam (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or Cache) not more than a year old preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of third-party database administration tools (e.g.; Toad for Oracle).

  • Demonstrated competency in resolution of operational technical support issues.

  • Demonstrated excellence in creative problem solving in an engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of software development lifecycles and testing methodologies.

  • Good understanding of algorithms and programming constructs.

  • Intermediate analytical and organizational skills.

  • Proven organizational and communication skills (written, presentation, listening, negotiation, and oral)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of at least one RDMS professional certification exam (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or Cache) not more than a year old.

  • Advanced experience in the use of desktop software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
