The translational focus of the research provides a unique, academic environment for conducting basic, clinical and applied science. The Biostatistician 4 will provide statistical consultation and collaboration to basic and clinical researchers in Oregon, with significant focus on cancer research. Incumbent will have the opportunity to work on developing novel statistical methodologies and/or improve the current methodologies.

Providence is calling a Biostatistician 4 to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR. Relocation assistance and sign-on bonus may be offered.

In this position you will:

  • Independently design, analyze, and write reports on complex statistical analysis of research data generated by Providence researchers.

  • Develop and oversee complex statistical functions including the design and analysis of pre-clinical experiments, clinical trials, outcomes research, grant preparation, authoring scientific and clinical publications, and implementing complex statistical methodologies.

  • Interact and consult with scientists to ensure proper use of statistical methodology and interpretation of results.

  • Program statistical software packages to improve efficiency of projects.

  • Be responsible for performing and interpreting statistical analysis on numerous clinical data sets, database management, and consultation on research.

  • Draw conclusions from complex research data.

  • Make recommendations regarding research, data gathering, and analyses to decrease bias and data errors.

  • Develop tracking systems to determine the efficiency of clinical trials.

  • Interact with clinical investigators to determine protocol design.

  • Evaluate databases and statistical analysis programs and interact with computer groups to determine hardware/software compatibility.

  • Maintain expertise in state-of-the-art data manipulation and statistical analyses.

  • Act as the subject-matter expert and be accountable for mentoring and improving the skills of other staff.

  • Ensure that standards and regulatory requirements are met, promote service excellence and effective and efficient use of personnel and material resources, and positively represent the service internally within the organization and externally in the community.

  • Assume responsibility for bodies of work and project work, as instructed.


Qualifications for this position include:

  • PhD in Biostatistics or related field

  • 10 years previous Biostatistician experience in data base management, advanced statistical analysis, presentation, spreadsheet, and word processing software

  • Advanced skills with statistical analysis software

  • Serve as a subject matter expert
