Providence is calling a Registered Nurse - Emergency - Psychiatric (0.9 FTE, Days) to Providence Health & Services in Olympia, WA.

We are seeking an Emergency Department Psychiatric RN to serve as a role model, leader, and bedside care coordinator of the multidisciplinary team providing patient care. As a professional caregiver the Psych RN is responsible and accountable for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The Psych RN plans and provides care to patients using the nursing process, available resources, and approaches based on hospital protocols and standards to achieve patient-driven outcomes and discharge-planning goals.

I n this position you will:

  • Demonstrate ability to quickly assess and determine treatment priority for patients of all age groups.

  • Accurately identify ESI level.

  • Collaborate with the charge nurse to manage multiple emergent patients.

  • Manage and document complex assessment data to modify and adjust plans of care.

  • Communicate relevant assessment data to care givers, family and patient.

  • Receive reports from triage nurse, review patient status with medics or reviews chart of low acuity patient.

  • Incorporate knowledge of growth and development into care.

  • Coordinate with other health care providers to accomplish needed care.

  • Provide nursing care to complex patients requiring: continual assessment, frequent adjustment of interventions (including medications), evaluation of multiple interventions, knowledge of behavioral health patient care and the application of knowledge related to developmental/physiological differences though the age continuum.

  • Serve as the role of leadership in coordination of care for the patient.

  • Provide patient advocacy at the bedside when coordinating and managing care.

  • Serve as the role of mentor and coach for new employees working in the Crisis area.

  • Serve as advocate for family and patient needs throughout the visit.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Washington State Licensure as a Registered Nurse, American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA ACLS), American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) is due upon hire.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is due within 6 months of hire.

  • Must maintain required licensure as well as certifications throughout employment in the Emergency Center.

  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.

  • Computer skills.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and nursing experience in a hospital acute care setting.
