Providence Health & Services Cook (on-call) in Kodiak, Alaska


Providence is calling a Cook to the Dietary Services Department at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, AK.

The cook will be responsible for the preparation of nutritious food and baked goods for the Medical Center’s patients, residents, physicians, employees and visitors.

In this position you will:

  • Prepare nutritious and appealing meals, adjusting recipes as needed to assure adequate amount of food is made available while minimizing waste.

  • Supervise and coordinate the general food preparation activities of the dietary aides.

  • Perform routine cleaning duties regularly to ensure the sanitary standards of the department are met in compliance with the Local, State and Federal regulations in conjunction with the HACCP standards.

  • Be responsible for accurate portion control for all food served.

  • Be responsible for checking the meat thawing carts inside the walk-in cooler daily ascertaining proper stacking protocol requirements and complying with FIFO procedures.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Certification in food safety and sanitation or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of date of hire.

  • One (1) years progressive food production experience.

  • Regular attendance.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts during all hours of operation, seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Food production experience in a health care setting.

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical care access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room and 2 ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC's long term care facility, has 22 beds.

PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
