Providence Health & Services Pharmacist Resident (PGY1) - Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling for a Pharmacist Resident (PGY1) opportunity at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, AK.
The Pharmacy Practice Resident will participate in a one-year (1) training program, which will include responsibility for developing the skills, knowledge and attitude necessary for the provision of high quality pharmaceutical care. He/she will be expected to demonstrate the ability to function effectively as a staff pharmacist, meeting the same standards of performance, duties and functions.
In this position you will:
Review and interpret physician’s orders to assure that the drug, dosage form, and dose is appropriate for the patient's age, weight, condition and comorbidities. Checks for drug incompatibilities and allergies, and takes appropriate action when necessary.
Review patient records and orders regarding drug therapy; recommend and initiate changes that are consistent with the patient's age; is successful in improving patient outcome through monitoring and intervention consistently.
Regularly consult with physicians and nursing staff members concerning the use, availability, dosage form, side effects and possible incompatibilities of new as well as currently used drugs; always take time to clearly explain information to concerned patients.
Follow proper computer order entry procedures.
Mix IV additive solutions and chemotherapy using good aseptic technique within the laminar flow hood.
Document all clinical interventions and workload statistics.
Complete required rotation objectives, evaluations, residency project, presentations and other assignments. Complete the required 2000 hours for successful completion of the program.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate from an accredited college or university of pharmacy.
If not licensed in the State of Alaska at initiation of the program, the resident should have initiated licensure application and obtain licensure from the Alaska State Board of Pharmacy during the residency.
Flexible schedule to accommodate department needs.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Previous experience in hospital pharmacy practice as a student, intern or pharmacist.
